Motorcyclists Can Be Hard to See: Look Twice for Bikes

On average, one motorcyclist dies every day on Texas roads. About half of fatal motorcycle crashes result from a car or truck colliding with a cyclist, often because drivers don’t see motorcycles or misjudge their speed, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

2017 TxDOT crash data indicates:

  • 2,101 cyclists were injured seriously
  • 501 motorcycle riders were killed

In 2016, 52.3% of motorcycle drivers and passengers killed on Texas roads were not wearing helmets.
